Only Pay for What You Need

I am surrounded by blinking lights and notification boxes. I'm managing data across a number of completely different machines and what I'm doing could possibly save you money. I'm deleting old files that I no longer need from my mini-atx Windows 7 desktop, installing new sofware packages and their dependancies on my linux laptop and transferring files from my Mac Pro to my Drobo FS. Even in the modern era of incredibly fast technologies for incredibly cheap prices, people spend alot of time waiting. That's my opinion, and I know I don't even wait as long as most people.

I still remember the days when I had a general-purpose machine that 'did it all' and kept all the data on that computer across two different drives, with no backups. I picked up a new drive that would be faster and larger, only to have my brand new third drive crap out and kill most of my grade 10 projects.
A decade and a university degree later, I still remember why I keep multiple devices. Not only to have data redundancy of the same files across multiple machines, but also to have device specilization. If a windows computer has 90 different applications installed, it can start to slow down alot, and until UEFI and SSD came along, the more complex and advanced your hardware, the longer the boot time was. So use portable devices for what they're meant for and less mobile computers for the heavier tasks.
Even though the tech guy at the big box store tried to convince me that the laptop I got in 2007 was a gaming laptop, any gearhead with two eyes could clearly see that the stats were barely enough for Unreal Tournament. The original. More importantly, personal experience has shown that any graphic use at all tends to superheat the entire bottom of the computer, so if I had bought it with that in mind, I imagine I would be somewhat upset. However, the computer was meant as a programming and writing tool, and in a pinch, a design tool. No real-time rendering required there. After trying Windows 7 and finding out what I liked most about it, I replaced the OS on the laptop (originally vista) with several versions of linux to see what I liked best and have found it even more capable at helping me keep connected while on the go. With a very fast boot time, too.

Why, you wonder, could any of this save you money? Like I mentioned in that first paragraph? I could save you money because this is what I do professionally and this is what I have always done. This is what you may be paying someone in your company an annual salary to do, even though they only pump out a new project once a year.

You see, I manage multimedia, with a focus on video. I don't just shoot and edit and deliever, I manage the video, from pre production planning, to initial videography to post processing and deployment strategies. Every programming company you know uses UML diagrams before they touch code, so why don't your video providers use storyboards? Do they simply assume you don't know about and or want them? Maybe they just want to save expenses on the job so they can pretend they have the best prices. I can't speak for them, frankly. I've worked in the industry where corners are not the only thing cut, wages are too. I've seen people work upwards of ten hours in a shift only to be paid $40-$60 for their work that day. Is it legal? Well there are loopholes that companies have found to maximize their profit.

Our focus is people treating people right. How do we achieve that? Our people work with the tools they need on the project they need them. If your video project is a top-of-the-line $4000 production, they have a 5D Mark II or III, a Mac Pro with the bells and whistles and Final Cut Pro or CS6. If your video is a value project around $400, well, they'll have the hardware necessary to handle that, a mirrorless system and a lav microphone with a netbook.

Not every business is the same and not all of them have the same needs in their video. That said, with the way that smartphones have changed how people find your business, every business does need my services. So why pay more than you need to for them? With Quotable Media Group, you only pay for what you need. Visit www.quotemeg.ca today and find out how you can benefit from my services.
